Ready for Camp? Because Camp is Ready for You!

Energy is high here at Tyler Hill as our counselors get ready for another AMAZING summer! Returning staff and new staff both joined together for a week long orientation, jam-packed with days of learning about what it takes to be a Tyler Hill counselor. Counselors were treated to experience their first Tyler Hill custom as they were woken by the sound of reveille every morning this week. The day continued to pick up momentum with several ice breakers and interviews used to match counselors to one of the many different divisions in camp.

After much anticipation, the counselors were finally assigned to their bunks, but of course with a Tyler Hill twist! The girl counselors were blindfolded and led by head counselors to the bunk they would be living in for the summer! The blindfolds were removed and the girls, full of excitement, embraced their new co-counselors. The boy counselors also experienced a Tyler Hill style revelation when they were assigned to bunks. Everyone was thrilled!

The next few days that followed were packed with lectures, safety training, swim tests, division meetings, and ice breaker games including everyone’s favorite—dodgeball! New staff members were introduced to the camp values of STARFISH and returning staff delighted in leading everyone in singing the Tyler Hill Alma Mater.   World-renowned child psychologist Bob Ditter even spent an entire day with our staff to teach them the best ways to coach children and deal with conflict resolution!

The busy week all culminated in a very hot and exciting Thursday morning when the campers’ duffel bags arrived! Chatter and enthusiasm spread through the camp like wildfire as counselors moved the bags to the bunks. Andy and Wendy concluded orientation with a final full staff meeting where they gave the counselors some final words of advice and encouragement. After a rigorous week chock full of information and fueled by some highly spirited staff, Tyler Hill Camp is ready for you!!! See you tomorrow!!!
