First-year campers at Tyler Hill are a lucky bunch — and are extremely special to us. We limit the number of new campers we take each summer because it’s important to us to focus time and attention on these first-timers and their families. The transition from home life to camp life is an exciting one, and we are “hand-holders” every step of the way.
Being a first-year camper and feeling part of the Tyler Hill family begins LONG before your child’s first actual summer at Tyler Hill!
To begin, if you are able to come up for a tour or a Rookie Day, your son or daughter will meet campers and counselors — and, of course, the directors — while you’re up at camp visiting! And then, during the ten months leading up to camp, your first-timer will join us at several Tyler Hill get-togethers (held in New York, New Jersey, Florida and even up at camp)! During each of these get-togethers, we’ll ensure that your son or daughter is making friends, feeling comfortable with our staff and getting excited for Opening Day!!
Our New Camper “Open House” is held every June up at camp just a few weeks before the summer begins. Open House is a chance for new campers and their families to re-connect with camp, to the staff and to this amazing Tyler Hill Camp family!
Once camp begins, our new campers get right into daily life at camp! Their camp big sisters or big brothers help them feel like they have an older sibling watching out for them, and their counselors, friendship coaches, group leaders, division leaders, head counselors and directors make sure that they are happy and having fun!!
And while your first year campers are settling in and having a blast, we’ll make sure you’re in-the-know. We maintain close communication with parents so that you know exactly how your child is adjusting — we know it’s an adjustment for you, too!
