Our full-time Owners/Directors,
Andy & Wendy Siegel, have
an extensive background in summer camping.
As campers, and then counselors, division leaders and head counselors, Andy and Wendy have experienced the full range of what camp has to offer. Andy brings to camp a large capacity to have fun, and ensures that each camper at Tyler Hill feels like he or she is the only camper at our camp. He spends his full time at camp working with campers and their families, guaranteeing that their needs and expectations are being met. Wendy spends her summer as THC's "camp mom", a role that allows her to take care of our campers, while also maintaining close ties with their parents. During the winter months, Andy and Wendy keep in regular contact with parents, campers and returning staff, and also spend the necessary time to interview and hire our new staff. Most important, Andy and Wendy care about our camp family and share a dedication and commitment to quality and excellence.

Andy & Wendy serve as the President and Secretary of S.C.O.P.E., (Summer Camp Opportunities Provide an Edge) a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping children in need by funding not-for-profit camps with "camperships" that offer inner city children the benefits of a safe, well-supervised and enriching summer camp experience.

Our Associate Director on Girls Campus, Bette Jane Weisenthal, has been attending sleepaway camp since she was four years old. Bette came to Tyler Hill in 1979 and has held positions as a Division Leader, Theatre Director and Girls Head Counselor. Her passion for camping is evident in everything she does and her goal each summer is always the same: Bette wants each and every camper to be in a safe and nurturing environment that creates wonderful memories. Bette recently retired after 20 years of teaching in the Great Neck Public Schools. She has two children of her own who grew up at Tyler Hill, as well as a grandson who is also currently part of the THC family.

Our full-time Assistant Director, Justin Mayer, has been a part of our camp family since he was 8 years old. Justin made his way through the ranks at our sister camp, Timber Lake, as a camper, counselor, group leader, and Assistant Program Director. Upon graduating from Indiana University, he worked as an accountant for three years. Justin soon realized his true passion was camp and came to join the THC family. Justin's tenure at Tyler Hill began in 2003 when he was hired as a Division Leader. In the years to follow, he held the positions of Program Director and Boys Head Counselor. Justin has a wonderful way of connecting to both children and staff and brings a sense of fun to everything he does at camp. He is committed to providing Tyler Hill campers with the best possible summer camp experience.

In addition, Justin serves as a Board Member and Treasurer of S.C.O.P.E. He is also a
committee member of ACA's E.P.I.C. (Emerging Professionals in Camping) program.

Camp spirit, tradition and continuous excitement keep our campers coming back year after year. The key to making a great summer experience happen is the quality of its staff. With a 1:2 staff to camper ratio, we work to ensure the best possible care, instruction and supervision for our campers.

Tyler Hill's staff salaries are the highest in the industry, ensuring a wide pool of quality applicants (college sophomores start at a $2,500 base). Our full-year training program, which employs the services of top psychologists and experts in the child development field, provides our staff with the proper “tools” to work with campers to achieve our goals of building relationships and enhancing self-esteem.
