5 KEY QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN SELECTING A CAMP

1. What is the camp’s mission & what outcome can I expect for my child?
Our mission at Tyler Hill Camp is to teach our campers the skills of making AND keeping friends while building their self-confidence, self-esteem, and resilience.  Everything we do at camp is geared toward the mission.

After one summer – not to mention after many summers at Tyler Hill – your child will come home a more confident and more resilient, with amazing friendships and memories that will last forever.

In addition to developing their character and self-esteem, your child will come home from each summer with new skills, amazing friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

2. Who are the counselors, where are they from and how are they selected?
Tyler Hill is fortunate to have more than 225 in-bunk counselors to care for our campers.  Many of them spent their summers as campers at Tyler Hill and are back to work as counselors, while many are teachers in training, college athletes and college students who bring spirit, fun and caring to our camp setting.

All counselors are interviewed by a director, and backgrounds are references are thoroughly checked.  Counselors spend eight days in our on-camp Staff Orientation, where we train and prepare them to be the best counselors they can be!

3. How competitive is the sports program?
One of the great aspects of our sports program at Tyler Hill Camp is that we work at every camper’s level.  We have competitive programs and intense training for those campers who thrive in that environment, and we have less rigorous sports options for those kids who enjoy sports but who are not looking to be the next Michael Jordan.

4. Where are most of your campers from?
Tyler Hill attracts campers from all over the northeast – from New Jersey to Philadelphia to New York City, Rockland County, Westchester and Long Island – to south Florida and all the way to California.  We love the diversity of our camp community, and parents love that their kids make new best friends from all over the country!

5. How do you ensure the health and safety of your campers?
The health and safety of our campers is paramount at Tyler Hill.

With eight full-time nurses and a 24-hour doctor, our health center is fully staffed and operational 24/7.  Our counselors are trained in all issues related to the health and safety of our campers, and Tyler Hill is, of course, accredited by the American Camp Association.
